Richard Y. Morita Papers, 1949-2005

Scope and Content Note

This collection includes Morita's correspondence with other microbiologists, including mentor Claude ZoBell. Materials relating to Morita's involvement in several oceanic research expeditions can also be found. The collection likewise includes material documenting Morita's involvement in the professional community as a journal editor, researcher, and symposium participant, as well as his nomination for the 1989 Ecology Institute Prize. Collection materials also reflect his review of research proposals and donation of books to the OSU Library. The two photographs depict Morita engaged in research activities, one of which appears to be part of field research he conducted on the Bikini Atoll in 1950.

Further biographical information, including a vita and a list of publications, can be found in the first folder of box 1 of the records. A narrative of Morita's life, including his experience as a Japanese-American Nisei in California, is also included in this file.
