College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences Motion Picture Films and Videotapes, 1968-1998

The College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences Motion Picture Films and Videotapes consist of moving images recorded and assembled by the College, primarily for instructional use. The collection includes films pertaining to oceanographic research, deep water drilling, and offshore oil and gas operations; videotapes of meterology lectures; and videotapes of marine resource management seminars on the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill and Pacific Northwest fisheries. Oceanography research began at Oregon State College in 1954 and the School of Oceanography was established in 1972.

The Oregon Stater Photograph Collection contains images taken by OSU Alumni Association staff, Oregon Stater editor George Edmonston, Gwil Evans and other Oregon Stater staff members for use in the almuni magazine. These photos depict various events including class reunions, alumni award recognition ceremonies, homecoming and alumni participating in various activties on and around the Oregon State campus. Also included are images of campus landmarks and of OSU faculty.

Margaret Osler Papers

Margaret Osler Papers, 1912-2010

Margaret Osler (1942-2010) was a historian of science and philosophy who published widely on the scientific revolution and on the connection between religion and early science. In her two books and more than 125 articles, Osler focused in particular on the work of Pierre Gassendi, Robert Boyle and Isaac Newton. Osler was a member of the faculty at the University of Calgary for thirty-five years.

The Charles Osterberg Motion Picture Films consist of 16 mm films made by Osterberg in the 1960s of oceanographic research conducted on the Oregon coast near the mouth of the Columbia River. Charles Osterberg earned a Ph.D. in oceanography at Oregon State University in 1962 and was a faculty member at OSU from 1962 until 1966.
