The Robert W. Newburgh Papers document Newburgh's research, administrative activities, participation in faculty governance, contributions to statewide and national organizations, and instruction. Newburgh joined the faculty of Oregon State University in 1953 and served as Chair of the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department, Director of the Science Research Institute, and Dean of the Graduate School. Newburgh retired from Oregon State in 1981.

Barton C. and Sally L. Hacker Nuclear History Collection, 1938-2002

The Hacker collection is comprised of books, government publications and unpublished technical reports dealing with multiple aspects of nuclear technology and the atomic age. The Hacker Collection is especially strong in materials on nuclear fallout, radiation protection, and histories of the atomic age dating from 1975 on. The collection was donated by Barton C. Hacker, Curator of Armed Forces History at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and former OSU professor. Hacker's wife Sally was a professor of sociology at OSU until 1988.

Dr. Mary Jo Nye (b. 1944) is a historian of science widely recognized for her research into scientific discovery as both a catalyst and product of social and political events. Through positions at the University of Oklahoma and Oregon State University, extensive publishing, and participation in the international community of historians of science, Dr. Nye has drawn recognition from prestigious organizations including the History of Science Society and the American Chemical Society. The Mary Jo Nye Papers include books relating to the history of science, reprints, manuscript notes, and miscellaneous documents.
