Born in 1922 in Missouri, David C. England came to OSU in 1955 as Assistant Professor of Animal Husbandry and Assistant Animal Husbandman with the Agricultural Experiment Station. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1961 and to Professor in 1970, and position he held until his retirement in 1991. England specialized in the study of swine production and breeding. He earned his BS degree from Washington State College (1949) and his MS (1950) and Ph.D degrees from the University of Minnesota.
