Primarily documenting treatments for physical conditions, these notebooks also describe other types of chemical concoctions such as steps in beer brewing, mixtures for tree sprays, and formulas for hair tonics. Paper ephemera found inside one of these notebooks consist of flyers, brochures, and bottle labels from pharmaceutical companies with product information on various compounds, tablets, and tinctures. Among these ephemera include Betzel's membership card in the C.C. Company Spatula Club of Good Mixers.
